Communion, Candles, and a Christmas Poem

Reading Time: < 1 minute

On Christmas Eve, we took communion. Aware of my sin, I took the cup and the bread with my head low and cried. How weak am I! My sin! My sin! I lament my sin! How very dark am I!

Then, the usher lit my son’s candle. My son lit my husband’s candle. My husband lit my candle. I watched in wonder and cried. My candle burned! Watson leaned his wick into mine, and I saw a new light shine. Glory!

A Christmas Poem

I am but a woman

Broken and wrong-minded on my own

But I am not alone

God is with me

And so, as dim-witted as I may be

I am a candle

A candle that can be lit

A candle that can burn

A candle that can be seen

A candle that attracts

For the hurting rap our doors

We are candles

Candles that can light other candles

Praise be to The Candle that can never go out

Beyond His birth 2,000 years

We sing His praises

We Know Him near

Immanuel

The One who made us candles

The One who lights our fire

My dear sister in Christ. I’ve been meditating on the Nativity more than usual this Christmas and how God came with us to give us His Light starting with the Son. Thank you for sharing your beautiful family moment and the poem that I will keep with me for the rest of the Christmas season. May God bless you and your wonderful family in the new year.

Oh, Thank you for sharing. I would love to hear more about what God has laid on your heart this Christmas season. I listened to a beautiful Advent devotional 28 days leading up to Christmas on Hallow, a beautiful Catholic app. I thought of you. You are on my mind often. May the Lord also richly bless you and yours in 2023 and every year after with more and more of Himself.

Thank you for your comment! “That was a beautiful night” … it reminds me of a new title I have recently found in Him, The Bringer of Beauty…He brings os much beauty into the world. Blessings!

It blesses me to hear from you! Please leave a reply here.
